Topmeori, Jogeumnaru, and Songgye Beach Famous as Sacred Sites for Car Camping Among Campers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Seo Young-seo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) has selected and announced tourist courses where families can safely enjoy travel, as social distancing has been lowered to level 1 and travel demand is increasing with the autumn foliage season.
This autumn travel destination was selected based on recommendations from experts in both domestic and international tourism fields, focusing on healing tourist spots where individuals, small groups, and families can relax leisurely in nature, featuring unique locations exclusive to Muan-gun.
The first travel course is a tour along the Yeongsan River in the inland area of Muan-gun, including Military Theme Park, Sigyeongjeong Pavilion, lunch (straw-grilled pork), Hoesan Baekryeonji Pond, and Motnani Art Museum, all accessible via a drive along the Yeongsan River riverside road.
The Military Theme Park is a place where Korean military culture is exhibited, educated, and experienced in one location, with outdoor displays of real training aircraft, fighter jets, helicopters, and tanks, providing a unique spectacle.
Sigyeongjeong Pavilion was used as a place for river exchange during the Joseon Dynasty, boasting excellent surrounding scenery and is the best spot in Muan to enjoy the graceful views of the Yeongsan River.
Food is also important in travel, and Mongtan-myeon, where the Military Theme Park and Sigyeongjeong Pavilion are located, is famous for straw-grilled pork, one of Muan’s five delicacies.
Straw-grilled pork is made by neatly laying female pork belly on a grill and roasting it with embers from burning rice straw, which imparts a distinctive aroma and excellent flavor. Especially when paired with chili crab sauce, it enhances the taste so much that even those who do not usually enjoy meat can eat it deliciously.
Hoesan Baekryeonji Pond is one of Muan’s representative tourist spots, where in summer, a spectacular view is created by beautiful white lotuses blooming over 100,000 pyeong of lotus ponds. It has now been developed into a healing forest park with flowers and trees throughout all four seasons.
Motnani Art Museum exhibits the “Motnani” works of artist Kim Pan-sam, a native of Muan. The “Motnani” works have a warm and friendly charm that brings smiles to everyone.
The second recommended autumn travel course in Muan-gun is a tour along the coastline, visiting Topmeori Beach, Jogeumna-ru, lunch (octopus), Muan Hwangto Mudflat Land, Doripo, and Songgye Beach.
Topmeori Beach boasts a beautiful landscape where a vast white sand beach and pine forest harmonize, and it is famous for its stunning sunset views where the sky and sea turn red.
Jogeumna-ru is a natural beach with a long white sand beach over 4 km and dense pine forests, giving it an exotic appearance reminiscent of foreign beaches.
After touring Jogeumna-ru, visitors can enjoy octopus for lunch at the nearby Muan Mudflat Octopus Direct Market. Octopus is a representative food of Muan and one of Muan’s five delicacies. The best seasons are spring and autumn, and especially the three-legged octopus caught in Muan’s mudflats, which contain germanium, is exceptionally delicious.
Muan Hwangto Mudflat Land is a place where visitors can observe various mudflat organisms in a vast premium mudflat and experience rest and healing in nature. It is fully equipped with an ecological mudflat science center, marine safety experience center, and auto camping site, making it a place where education, experience, and accommodation are all possible in one location.
Doripo is an optimal spot for sea fishing and one of the rare places on the west coast where you can enjoy a magnificent sunrise. Songgye Beach is a place where white sand beaches and pine forests blend together. It is called Songgye because of the dense pine trees, and the endless pine forest extending to the seaside creates a spectacular view.
In particular, Topmeori, Jogeumna-ru, and Songgye Beach have recently gained popularity as ideal spots for untact car camping due to COVID-19, becoming famous among campers as a sanctuary for car camping.
A county official said, “As we enter the autumn season, which is perfect for travel, we hope people enjoy these safe travel courses and heal in the beautiful nature.” He also urged, “Please strictly follow quarantine rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
