Ministry of Science and ICT Designates 'VR·AR Status Survey' as Official National Statistics

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The status of the domestic virtual reality and augmented reality (VR·AR) industry will be provided as nationally approved statistics.

On the 28th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that the VR·AR industry survey has been designated as nationally approved statistics by the National Statistical Office. With the commercialization of 5G services increasing demand for VR·AR services, accurate industry statistics can now be provided to related industries and the public.

The Ministry of Science and ICT organized the survey population and improved the classification system to receive national approval for the virtual·augmented reality industry survey. To secure the survey target, they analyzed basic data from August and built a survey population including companies operating related businesses domestically.

The Ministry plans to conduct the survey starting in November and provide the results through the national statistics portal in February next year.

Song Kyung-hee, Director of Software Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “With the establishment of nationally approved statistics for the virtual and augmented reality industry, it is now possible to provide official statistics that the public and industry can trust and utilize. Based on accurate industry status, we will strive to prepare policies to further activate the virtual and augmented reality industry and expand support.”
