[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] An applicant who completed the physical fitness test for the recruitment of wildfire monitors ultimately died from symptoms of respiratory distress.


According to Gunwi-gun, Gyeongbuk, on the 27th, at around 11:10 a.m., applicant A (59) participated in a physical fitness test on a mountain trail in Dongbu-ri, Gunwi-gun, carrying a 15 kg backpack pump and moving 1.3 km.


After finishing the test, A complained of chest pain while resting and died en route to the hospital in a 119 ambulance.


A Gunwi-gun official said, "We ensured sufficient warm-up exercises before the fitness test and even advised not to proceed if feeling unwell, so it is regrettable that this incident occurred."


The police are investigating the exact cause of death with officials from the county office.
