Wearing Paper Colored by Hand... 'Dress Coloring Kit' Gains Attention

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] A company that went beyond just coloring in sketchbooks from childhood to creating wearable items has become a hot topic.

The company is DESIGN-O, an industrial design specialist based in Gwangju, founded in 2008.

DESIGN-O’s Dress Coloring Kit was designed for mothers and children who have had to spend most of their time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a product that allows children to color and then try on the clothes in actual size, enabling role play.

The Dress Coloring Kit can also be used as an educational program by mothers, children, daycare centers, art academies, and child psychology counselors. It helps develop children’s fine motor skills and improves hand-eye coordination.

In addition to coloring, children can learn names and experience different textures through various media such as colored paper, stickers, colored sand, and paint, making it a beneficial product for kids.

Currently, the kit consists of three dress designs favored by girls, but DESIGN-O is developing versions for boys, traditional Hanbok experiences, and occupational role play (firefighter, nurse, police officer, baseball uniform, etc.).

Since children can touch and try on the items directly, the product has undergone safety ingredient testing as well as KC safety certification verification.

The creation of this product is also the result of efforts by CEO Oh Yeon-hwa of DESIGN-O, who is a mother of two children and spent several months trying to support her daughter who could not attend daycare.

CEO Oh explained that because she knows best what her daughter, who was deeply into princess play, likes, she devoted herself to developing the product with a mother’s heart.

Oh Yeon-hwa, CEO of DESIGN-O, said, “This product can be a good solution for mothers exhausted from childcare and children struggling due to COVID-19.”
