Expansion to 14 Core Historic Sites of Silla Wanggyung

Enforcement Decree of the Special Act on Restoration and Maintenance of Core Historic Sites of Silla Wanggyung Enacted

The number of sites included in the Silla Wangyeong project will be expanded to fourteen. On the 27th, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that it will enact the Enforcement Decree of the "Special Act on the Restoration and Maintenance of Core Relics of Silla Wangyeong," which will take effect from December 11. The Silla Wangyeong Act was established on December 10 last year to restore and maintain the core relics of Silla Wangyeong, the capital of Silla and Unified Silla. The focus is on reviving the prototype of national culture and developing Gyeongju into a historical and cultural city.

The newly enacted Enforcement Decree defines the scope of the core relics of Silla Wangyeong and specifies necessary matters for establishing comprehensive plans and annual implementation plans. First, the scope of core relics, previously limited to seven sites including Gyeongju Wolseong, Gyeongju Hwangnyongsa Site, Gyeongju Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, Gyeongju Cheomseongdae, Gyeongju Daereungwon area, Gyeongju Eastern Historic Site Zone, and Gyeongju Chunyanggyo Site and Woljeonggyo Site, will be expanded to fourteen. The additional sites include Gyeongju Inwang-dong Temple Site, Gyeongju Cheongwansa Site, Gyeongju Namsan area, Gyeongju Sacheonwangsa Site, Gyeongju Bunhwangsa Site, Gyeongju Guhwang-dong Wonji Relic Area, and Gyeongju Mitan Temple Site Three-story Stone Pagoda.

The activities of the Silla Wangyeong Core Relics Restoration and Maintenance Project Promotion Team, organized by the Prime Minister's directive, will also gain momentum. An official explained, "With the organization and tasks established, its function and role as the command center for establishing comprehensive plans have been strengthened." They added, "It is expected that a more systematic and planned restoration and maintenance project will be promoted."
