[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A man in his 20s who caused an accident while speeding under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the deaths of two people, has been sentenced to prison.

On the 26th, Judge Kim Ho-seok of the Criminal Division 2 at Daejeon District Court announced that A (26) was sentenced to 7 years in prison for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and the Road Traffic Act.

A was prosecuted on charges of crashing into a truck near the Daejeon Interchange on the Gyeongbu Expressway at around 6:07 a.m. on July 5th while driving his passenger car, causing the driver and passenger of the truck to die.

According to the police, A was found to have driven about 67 km from Cheonan, Chungnam, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.101%.

It was confirmed that A was speeding at 166.55 km/h on a highway where the speed limit was 100 km/h at the time of the accident.

The court stated, "Although he was punished for drunk driving in 2018, he did not repent and committed the crime again," adding, "The nature of the crime is very serious, and he did not reach a settlement with the victims' side."

A has appealed the verdict.
