Traffic Committee Passes '2020 Administrative Audit Witness Summons'... Representatives of Seoul Electric Scooter Operators Kickgoing, Ssingssing, Lime, Beam Regarding Parking and Safety Issues, and Green Mobility, Daelim Motorcycle Regarding Electric Motorcycle Policy Summoned for November 5
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Transportation Committee (Chairman Woo Hyung-chan·photo, Democratic Party, Yangcheon 3) announced that during the 298th regular session, it has selected representatives of electric kickboard companies ‘Ollullo’, ‘PUMP’, ‘Lime Korea’, and ‘Beam Mobility Korea’, as well as representatives of electric motorcycle companies Green Mobility and Daelim Motorcycle as witnesses for the administrative audit of the Urban Transportation Office.
The Transportation Committee held a special session during the recess of the 297th session and proposed and approved the '2020 Administrative Audit Witness Attendance Request' to summon the relevant witnesses.
Committee members stated, “Recently, as the number of citizens using electric kickboards has rapidly increased, many issues such as electric kickboards being left on roads and safety accidents have arisen. In the case of electric motorcycles, although the Seoul city government provides subsidies, usage rates remain low due to a lack of charging infrastructure and battery performance degradation.
Regarding the PM (personal mobility) issues including electric kickboards, companies have been focusing solely on profit-seeking with insufficient corporate responsibility. We want to emphasize this and discuss institutional solutions together.”
*PM (personal mobility): A one-person mobility device powered by electricity, such as electric kickboards and electric bicycles.
Transportation Committee Chairman Woo Hyung-chan said, “Through this administrative audit, the Transportation Committee will actively reflect citizens’ demands, including issues with electric kickboards that have caused inconvenience and danger, review electric motorcycle policies, and various accidents involving electric vehicles, and do its best to ensure that good improvement measures are promptly prepared.”
Meanwhile, if a witness who has received a summons for the administrative audit fails to appear without justifiable reason or refuses to testify, a fine of up to 5 million won may be imposed. (Article 41, Paragraph 5 of the Local Autonomy Act)
