[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, passed away on the morning of the 25th. At the funeral hall set up at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, wreaths from political and business circles continue to arrive in tribute to his final journey.
Samsung has declined flowers and condolences, but some wreaths sent from political and business circles are being brought into the basement level 2 where the funeral hall is located.
From the business community, wreaths were sent by Choi Jeong-woo, Chairman of POSCO; Cheon Sin-il, Chairman of Sejung; Seo Jung-jin, Chairman of Celltrion; Park Jung-won, Chairman of Doosan; Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung Group; and Chung Mong-jin, CEO and Chairman of KCC.
From the political sphere, around 2 p.m., wreaths from Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, followed by Park Byeong-seok, Speaker of the National Assembly; Lee Nak-yeon, Leader of the Democratic Party; Kang Kyung-wha, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, entered the funeral hall.
Currently, preparations for the funeral hall are in full swing, and it is known that three rooms on basement level 2?rooms 17, 19, and 20?have been combined to create the space. Access for outsiders is restricted. About 50 members of the press are waiting at the central entrance door of the funeral hall.
External condolences are expected to begin the next day, the 26th, starting at 10 a.m. with Samsung’s executive team. Family members, relatives, some Samsung Group executives, and acquaintances are expected to pay their respects.
Meanwhile, Chairman Lee passed away at 3:59 a.m. on the day at the age of 78. The funeral will be held as a family ceremony over four days, with the funeral procession scheduled for the 28th.
