[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Jeffrey Toobin (60), a senior legal advisor at CNN and a well-known American lawyer, was suspended for engaging in obscene behavior during a video conference.

On the 20th (Korean time), foreign media reported that during a meeting held on the video conferencing platform Zoom, he did not realize his camera was on and engaged in obscene behavior by touching his genitals, resulting in a suspension from The New Yorker.

According to the American online media Vice, last week while conducting a video conference with staff from The New Yorker and WNYC radio, he exposed his genitals. An anonymous whistleblower who attended the meeting said that when the meeting was briefly paused, he appeared to be making a phone call to someone and then touched his genitals with his hand.

At the time, Toobin reportedly felt assured because the video conference was not showing on his monitor. He said, "I thought the camera was off and that I was not visible on the Zoom screen," adding, "I also thought I was muted."

However, the obscene act was fully visible to the eight meeting participants. Some attendees reportedly left the screen in shock. Toobin apologized to his family, friends, and colleagues, saying, "I made a stupid mistake."

The New Yorker issued a statement announcing that Toobin had been suspended due to this incident. CNN also stated, "We accepted his request for time off to address personal matters."

Meanwhile, Toobin is a Harvard Law School graduate and a famous lawyer who authored books such as Vast Conspiracy: The True Story Behind the Sex Scandal That Nearly Sank a President, Run of Life: The People vs. O. J. Simpson, and The Nine: The Story of the Supreme Court’s Nine Justices Who Shape America. He has worked as a writer for The New Yorker for over 25 years and has been known as a legal advisor at CNN since 2002.
