Korea Technology Group Considers Name Change: "Lawsuit Will Continue"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hankook Technology Group (formerly Hankook Tire) is reportedly considering changing its company name amid a trade name dispute.

A representative of Hankook Technology Group stated on the 22nd, "We are in the process of changing the company name," adding, "We have completed the development of the new company name and corporate identity (CI) and are preparing to file for registration." However, they plan to continue legal actions such as appeals.

The reason Hankook Technology Group is pursuing a name change appears to be due to a dispute with Hankook Technology. In May, the Seoul Central District Court partially granted Hankook Technology's injunction request to prohibit the use of its trade name, ordering Hankook Technology Group not to use the trade name on company and holding company signs, advertisements, business plans, business cards, and brochures.

Additionally, on the 20th, the court accepted Hankook Technology's indirect enforcement request, ordering daily compensation for violations of the trade name prohibition.

In response, Hankook Technology Group filed an objection, but the presiding court dismissed it, and they have since filed an appeal.

Last May, Hankook Tire Worldwide changed its company name to Hankook Technology Group, and its core affiliate Hankook Tire also changed its name to Hankook Tire & Technology. Accordingly, Hankook Technology Group established an integrated brand system reflecting the global brand "Hankook." The company planned to strengthen its competitiveness in the global market through this integrated brand.
