[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Genesis launched the first facelift model of its mid-size sports sedan G70, 'The New G70,' on the 20th. Following the G80, G90, and GV80, Genesis's new family look centered on the dual-row 'quad lamp' design has been enhanced with high-performance car sensibility, advanced convenience features, and more.
The front features a low-positioned Crest grille and dual-row quad lamps extending left and right, shaping the Genesis emblem to complete the brand's design identity. The side inherits the dynamic proportions of the existing G70, characterized by a long hood and short front overhang, while applying aerodynamically optimized side vents (air outlets) and new G70-exclusive wheels. At the rear, a body-colored diffuser and dual mufflers emphasize the image of a high-performance sedan.
The interior is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment system. The screen size of the basic instrument cluster has been increased from 3.5 inches to 8 inches, improving the visibility of driving information.
The exterior colors are offered in 14 options, adding 5 new colors. These include Bond Silver, introduced for the first time by Genesis, three matte colors?Verbier White, Melbourne Gray?and two glossy colors?Sedona Brown and Tasman Blue.
The powertrain lineup remains the same with a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo, 2.2-liter diesel, and 3.3-liter gasoline turbo. However, a new driving mode called 'Sport+ (Plus),' which optimizes engine and transmission control autonomously, has been added. The Sport+ mode delays the shift point to higher gears during acceleration and synchronizes the transmission and engine RPM momentarily during deceleration to advance the shift point to lower gears. This maximizes engine torque to provide a dynamic driving experience.
Especially for the 3.3-liter gasoline turbo model, additional features enhancing driving pleasure are offered. When selecting the Sport specification on the 3.3 turbo model, the 'Variable Exhaust Muffler' is added, which applies an electronic variable valve to the exhaust muffler to produce a sportier exhaust sound depending on the accelerator pedal input.
Genesis has applied highly preferred safety and convenience features as standard on The New G70. First, a 10-airbag system including front seat center side airbags is installed. Additionally, advanced features such as ▲Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist ▲Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist ▲Multi-Collision Brake System are included.
Through the enlarged 10.25-inch 'Genesis Infotainment System,' users can access advanced vehicle connectivity technologies such as wireless navigation updates, Genesis CarPay, Valet Mode (a privacy protection feature during valet parking or driving), and Home Connectivity (Car-to-Home, Home-to-Car).
The prices are set at 40.35 million KRW for the 2.0 turbo, 43.59 million KRW for the 2.2 diesel, and 45.85 million KRW for the 3.3 turbo. Like existing Genesis models, The New G70 is sold through the personalized sales system 'Your Genesis,' allowing customers to choose engine, drivetrain, color, wheels and tires, and package options according to their preferences.
All engine models offer the option to select the 'Sports Package,' which includes electronically controlled suspension, Brembo brakes, and sport-exclusive wheel and exterior/interior designs. Popular packages such as the ▲Convenience Package ▲Comfort Package1 ▲High-Tech Package ▲Head-Up Display are bundled into the 'Popular Package,' priced at a reduced 3.73 million KRW compared to individual option purchases, lowering the price burden.
A Genesis official said, "With The New G70 reflecting Genesis's design identity, the brand identity of the Genesis lineup has been further strengthened. While enhancing product competitiveness, we have added new safety and convenience features that reflect current trends to satisfy customers even more."
