Dongjak-gu, Creation of Multi-Generational Water Playground

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is set to create a "generation-friendly water play area" in the Sadang-dong San 21-9 area within Hyeonchung Neighborhood Park, aiming for completion by June next year.

This project was initiated to establish a customized water play park that can be used by all generations, from children to the elderly, reflecting the demands of local residents and park visitors for a pleasant resting space.

The area will cover 1,212㎡ and include ▲ water play experience zones ▲ square pergolas and resting shelters ▲ tree planting ▲ eco-friendly soil-paved paths, designed to be nature-friendly by maximizing the use of existing terrain and trees.

First, the district completed the basic design service, which involved analyzing site conditions, natural environment, reviewing installation cases, and planning directions. Starting next month, they plan to proceed with design and construction bidding.

The water play experience area will feature ▲ a "floor fountain" that provides coolness in summer and can be used as a resting plaza in winter ▲ a "foot water playground" where the whole family can enjoy water play in shallow water ▲ a "natural stream" using groundwater to create a small valley in the urban area.

In particular, to allow family visitors to relax and enjoy the surrounding scenery, the area will include ▲ outdoor stands ▲ square pergolas ▲ resting shelters and sculptural benches ▲ Seokgye waterfall and small waterfalls.

Additionally, to provide beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons, approximately 4,200 flowers and trees such as ▲ Korean hornbeam, zelkova, cheongdan maple ▲ azaleas and hydrangeas ▲ yellow iris and soft rush will be planted by utilizing the existing terrain throughout the water play area.

Moreover, fitness facilities such as aerial walking and weight lowering within Hyeonchung Neighborhood Park and the children's playground will be relocated, and eco-friendly soil-paved paths will be newly established to promote residents' health.

The district plans to link the water play area with 72 educational facilities nearby, including daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as Sadang Sports Complex, to provide nature-friendly water play programs enjoyed in the city.

Meanwhile, by December, the district will invest about 4.9 billion KRW in the Bondong San 3-9 area to implement the "Family Park Nature Yard Project," which includes installing a 27,000㎡ forest experience playground, adventure play facilities, biological habitat forest, deck roads, and walking trails.

Kim Won-sik, Director of the Parks and Greenery Division, said, "Through the creation of this generation-friendly water play area, we will provide residents with a nature-friendly resting space that all generations can use together."
