Seungro Lee, Seongbuk-gu Mayor, Receives '1st Annual Constitution Award'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 14th, Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, was honored as the recipient of the Autonomous Administration category award at the ‘1st Korea Constitutional Award Ceremony’ held at the Kukmin Ilbo Building in Yeouido.

The ‘Korea Constitutional Award’ is an event hosted by the Korea Constitutional Association, composed of current and former members of the National Assembly. It selects awardees by evaluating contributions to upholding constitutional values, promoting national prosperity and public welfare, establishing national future strategies, and nurturing national talents among metropolitan and basic local government heads, city and provincial superintendents of education, and local council members.

Notably, this year marks the first time the award was given in the autonomous administration category, making it a more meaningful recognition of the recipients' dedicated efforts.

Under the slogan “Finding Answers on the Ground!”, Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, has continuously worked over two years of the 7th local government term to expand living autonomy through initiatives such as operating the On-site Mayor’s Office, enacting the Future 100 Years Seongbuk Declaration, and revitalizing residents’ autonomy committees, thereby enhancing both the institutional scope and qualitative level of resident participation to realize the constitutional value of popular sovereignty.

He also received high praise for establishing generational future response strategies at the community level, implementing the nation’s first customized housing management service for the elderly, fostering future new growth industries for the youth generation, and promoting projects guaranteeing children and adolescents’ rights to participate and play. These efforts created leading models for various policies and laid the foundation for establishing national future strategies based on community experiences.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu stated, “My belief in resident sovereignty, which has driven participation and solidarity between residents and the public, played a significant role in this award,” adding, “To solve the rapidly changing problems of future society, we will further strengthen the innovative system of resident participation and communication and do our best to create a happy Seongbuk where residents, the true owners of the city, can thrive.”
