[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A janitor at a Chinese company has become a topic of discussion after drinking toilet water to demonstrate the cleanliness of the restroom.

On the 14th, according to Chinese online media Pengpai, a video showing a janitor at a company holding a cup filled with toilet water and then drinking it in front of others has spread online, causing controversy.

The employee scooped water pooled inside a typical Chinese squat toilet into a cup, showed it to the surrounding people, and then drank all the water in the cup. He said, "I hope every department performs their duties perfectly."

One netizen, after watching the video, questioned, "Is it really necessary to go this far just to show that you did a good job?"

The video was recently filmed at a feed company in Shandong Province, China, and those present with the janitor were reportedly customers visiting the company.

A representative of the company stated, "The janitor's actions were voluntary and not requested by the company." They further explained that the employee who drank the toilet water is a 'model worker' and that this act was meant to demonstrate his thoroughness in his work.

The representative also said, "Everyone has different perspectives," adding, "If you consider the toilet not as a vessel for excrement but as a container for water, it might be easier to accept."

However, many netizens responded, saying, "Every person deserves dignity," and "Even if the water quality meets drinking standards, it is still toilet water and is insulting."
