[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] On the 14th, Kang Eun-mi, floor leader of the Justice Party, criticized the government's stance regarding the Berlin Peace Statue of a Girl, which was facing demolition.

In her remarks at the National Assembly party meeting, Leader Kang said, "When even the Japanese Foreign Minister personally requested the German government to demolish it, risking everything, where was our government and what were they doing?" She added, "Once again, citizens are stepping up." She also pointed out, "This demolition decision should not provide the Japanese government with an excuse to deny their past history and obtain a pardon."

Regarding the German government, she said, "Germany has set an example worldwide through thorough and continuous reflection on its past history, so this news is shocking beyond just being embarrassing."

She continued, "It is not the time for our government to just fold its arms while there is a movement to distort history based on power and instead package it as truth. I urge you to take thorough and active measures."

Meanwhile, Lee Soo-hyuk, Ambassador to the United States, stated at the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee's audit held at the National Assembly on the 12th, "The embassy is not directly involved in the statue issue," and explained the reason for not actively responding, saying, "There could be diplomatic disputes with the host countries (such as the U.S.), and if the government intervenes, diplomatic conflicts may arise."
