Kim Young-ha's 'The Plotters' Wins Literary Award from German Independent Publisher

The Literature Translation Institute of Korea announced on the 13th that the German translation of author Kim Young-ha's novel Memoir of a Murderer has won the German Independent Publishing Literary Award. This award was established in 2009 by independent publishers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It does not restrict genres and evaluates all books published in German within the year. The selection committee chooses nominees from submitted works by publishers, and the final winner is decided through an online public vote.

Memoir of a Murderer was honored above 170 other works. The literary award committee commented, "The concise and ironic writing style and the unique approach to dementia are impressive," and added, "It vividly depicts the dramatic process of dementia, where memory loss leads to personality disintegration." They further stated, "Author Kim has proven himself as a writer who expresses the depths of human nature with originality and delicacy."

Memoir of a Murderer was introduced to Germany with translation and publication support from the Literature Translation Institute of Korea. The publication was handled by Cass Publishing, which specializes in Korean and Japanese literature. Cass Publishing is an excellent translation company that has won the Publishing Award from the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media for two consecutive years.
