[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Twitter is developing a feature called 'Birdwatch' that warns users about false information or malicious tweets.

According to foreign media such as TechCrunch and The Verge on the 5th, Birdwatch can warn about false information or malicious tweets that may harm the Twitter community.

A small binoculars icon appears on tweets posted on the Twitter timeline, and when users click the icon, they are taken to a screen where they can view the tweet's details.

In the future, a new tab called 'Birdwatch Notes' will be added to Twitter's sidebar navigation alongside existing features such as Lists, Topics, and Bookmarks.

The Birdwatch feature was first revealed in its early development stage last summer on the Twitter website by engineer Jane Manchun Wong.

At that time, the name Birdwatch was not used, but the interface showed voting on whether a tweet contained false information or incitement, and adding notes with additional explanations. Recently, a similar interface was also found on iOS devices.

However, it has not yet been specifically decided whether all Twitter users can annotate false tweets, whether Twitter approval is required for such access, or if it will be allowed only for selected users or fact-checkers.

Meanwhile, Twitter has recently taken a tough stance on tweets containing misleading, false information, or inflammatory remarks. It even attached fact-check labels to some of Trump's tweets.

Twitter has not disclosed detailed information about the Birdwatch plan but confirmed that this feature is designed to prevent the spread of false information on Twitter in advance.
