[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] 'Namdo Jangteo,' an online shopping mall for agricultural, marine, and livestock products in Jeollanam-do, recorded sales of 6.4 billion KRW during the Chuseok special sale, driven by the popularity of premium and long-term preservation gift sets.
According to Jeollanam-do's sales analysis on the 30th, sales of high-priced products over 100,000 KRW reached 46 million KRW this Chuseok, more than tripling compared to last Lunar New Year. Sales of long-term preservation gift sets such as sesame oil, seaweed, and dried anchovies also saw significant growth.
The total sales of 6.4 billion KRW during the special sale period is more than three times the 2.1 billion KRW recorded during last Lunar New Year.
Jeollanam-do attributed this to efforts such as ▲diversifying distribution channels through strategic partnerships with 31 companies including the Jeonnam Regional Post Office ▲strengthening promotions and marketing targeting 2,500 public institutions including government and local governments ▲enhancing quality control through the implementation of the 'One Strike Out System,' which increased Namdo Jangteo's brand awareness.
In particular, this achievement is analyzed to be mainly due to demand to substitute the regret of not visiting hometowns with Chuseok gifts amid the social atmosphere of refraining from movement due to COVID-19, as well as an increase in premium product sales following the rise of the agricultural product gift limit under the Anti-Graft Act to 200,000 KRW. Additionally, due to the impact of COVID-19, the demand for home-cooked meals has increased, making gift sets that can be stored for a long time at home popular.
Among the products sold, the Wando Live Abalone Set from Haesin Fisheries Cooperative recorded sales of 500 million KRW, the Hanwoo Gift Set from Cheongjagol Hanuri Agricultural Cooperative recorded 400 million KRW, and the Apple and Pear Gift Set from Irum Farms recorded 360 million KRW. The top 30 companies each achieved sales exceeding 10 million KRW.
Currently, Namdo Jangteo hosts 996 companies within the province, selling 13,352 agricultural, marine, livestock, and processed food products. Last year's total sales amounted to 6.38 billion KRW, but this year, buoyed by strong Chuseok sales, it is expected to exceed 30 billion KRW.
