Gangbuk-gu Takes Steps to Revitalize Traditional Markets... Encouraging Market Merchants and Promoting Online Delivery Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 28th, Park Gyeom-su, the mayor of Gangbuk-gu, visited a traditional market to spend time communicating with merchants who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Park listened to the difficulties faced by market merchants and conveyed warm words of comfort and encouragement. He also wished the residents who visited the traditional market to prepare for the holidays a bountiful Chuseok.
In particular, Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, accompanied the visit to Suyu Market (including Suyu Traditional Market and the conventional market). At a meeting where Mayor Park, Deputy Prime Minister Hong, and officials gathered, he conveyed the vivid voices from the field necessary to revitalize traditional markets.
Additionally, in terms of revitalizing traditional markets, he actively promoted ‘Nolleowayo Market (Noljang)’, which was first implemented in the Seoul area since April. Deputy Prime Minister Hong used ‘Noljang’ to order snacks to be delivered to employees working at the screening clinic in the Gangbuk-gu Public Health Center.
‘Noljang’ is a traditional market online free delivery service using a mobile app. Within a 2 km radius, market products can be received at home within 2 hours. The order time is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Suyu Conventional Market and Jangmiwon Alley Market also offer online delivery services by searching for ‘Neighborhood Market Shopping’. Suyu Conventional Market delivers to all areas of Seoul and Uijeongbu City, while Jangmiwon Alley Market delivers to the entire Gangbuk-gu except Mia-dong and Beon-dong.
Park Gyeom-su, mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We will continue to make efforts so that the traditional markets, which have been depressed due to COVID-19, can regain vitality,” and added, “I hope many residents will take the lead in using traditional markets in the region by utilizing online order delivery services.”
