Busan City announced on the 27th that services on Government24 and unmanned civil service issuance machines will be suspended from September 29 to October 4 due to preparations for the introduction of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's next-generation resident registration system.

The next-generation resident registration system will be implemented in three phases to respond to changes in the resident registration work environment and to establish a foundation for utilizing future new technologies, with the first phase system being fully introduced from October 5.

In this first phase project, the outdated resident registration systems of 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide that have been in use for over 20 years will be integrated and built into a web-based latest information technology environment.

Considering the sensitivity and importance of resident registration seal information, the security level of designated terminals exclusively for the administrative network will be significantly strengthened, and in the upcoming second and third phase projects, digital technologies such as touch screen-based civil service processing will be utilized to further enhance convenience and service stability for residents.

To minimize citizen inconvenience due to the system transition, the next-generation resident registration system transition work will be carried out during the Chuseok holiday.

Accordingly, resident registration-related services such as issuance of resident registration certificates and extracts, and resident registration move-in reports will be completely suspended during the Chuseok holiday period.

Lee Beom-cheol, Director of the Administrative Autonomy Bureau of Busan City, said, “We are making efforts to minimize citizen inconvenience and confusion caused by the introduction of the new system, but since service suspension during the Chuseok holiday is inevitable, we ask for citizens' understanding and cooperation.”
