Emart Launches Cost-Effective Assorted Sashimi for 4-5 People Catering to Home Dining Preferences

'On Family Food' Event Until October 2

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Emart is launching a discount event on ‘family-friendly food’ that families can enjoy together for ‘home-chujok’ who refrain from going out and stay at home during the Chuseok holiday period.

Emart announced on the 27th that it will hold an event offering up to 30% off premium family food such as assorted sashimi, red king crab, boiled lobster, and LA galbi until the 2nd of next month. Considering this year’s long Chuseok holiday, the event will run for 9 days, longer than the usual period.

In this event, Emart will sell the ‘Signature Chamgwangwoo (Nong) Banquet,’ planned with the intention of creating a ‘signature’ product unique to Emart’s seafood section, at 29,800 KRW, a 25% discount from the regular price. The ‘Signature Chamgwangwoo (Nong) Banquet’ is an assorted sashimi set consisting of 120g of domestic red sea bream, 180g of domestic flatfish, 120g of domestic rockfish (or sea bass), and 120g of Norwegian salmon. Depending on the situation, sea bass may be included instead of rockfish. The sashimi weighs about 540g, enough for 4 to 5 people to enjoy.

Also, noting the increased demand for premium food during the holiday period, the ‘Red King Crab (Russian origin),’ considered the highest grade among live crabs, will be sold at 6,480 KRW per 100g, about 30% off the regular price. Emart was able to lower prices through pre-planning for the holiday season since early this year and has prepared about 6 tons of stock for this event.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Emart is also holding the ‘Korea Real Seafood Festival,’ an event to support domestic seafood producers. Emart, in partnership with the Ministry, is offering an additional 20% discount on top of existing event prices for 12 popular domestic seafood items such as ‘Jeju silver cutlassfish,’ ‘Jeju yellow croaker,’ ‘fresh red sea bream,’ ‘whole octopus,’ ‘new-season flower crab,’ and ‘cleaned freshwater and sea eel’ exclusively for Shinsegae Point members until the 30th of this month. ‘Fresh Jeju silver cutlassfish’ can be purchased for 8,000 KRW and 4,800 KRW respectively, ‘Jeju yellow croaker’ for 1,320 KRW and 2,640 KRW, and new-season flower crab is sold at 1,480 KRW per 100g.

For ‘honchujok’ who have to spend Chuseok alone, a discount event on Peacock’s convenient food is also prepared. All six types of Peacock refrigerated soups and all instant rice products are sold at a 20% discount when purchasing two or more. ‘Peacock Imun Beef Knee Soup and Seolleongtang,’ ‘Rich Beef Short Rib Soup,’ and ‘Johnsonville Sausage Budae Jjigae’ are each priced at 5,980 KRW, ‘Peacock Okdongshik Pork Bone Soup’ at 4,980 KRW, and ‘Peacock Our Home Soft Tofu Stew’ at 4,580 KRW. A 20% discount also applies when purchasing two or more different products. Instant rice, such as ‘Peacock Cheorwon Odae Rice,’ is available at 3,280 KRW for 3 packs and 5,960 KRW for 6 packs at regular price, with a 20% discount when buying two or more.

The reason Emart is launching a family food discount event is that demand for home-cooked meals is expected to increase during the long five-day holiday period amid a trend of refraining from traveling and not visiting hometowns. According to data released by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 23rd, 76.5% of 1,000 Seoul citizens aged 18 and over responded that they would ‘stay only in Seoul without moving to other cities’ during the Chuseok holiday. Additionally, 67.9% of Seoul citizens said they do not plan to visit family or relatives who do not live with them during this Chuseok holiday.
