Deaths Surpass 200,000 and Increase Resumes
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the United States has reached 7 million.
Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. reported on the 25th (local time) that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States totaled 7,019,232. It has been 248 days, about 8 months, since the first COVID-19 case was reported in the U.S. on January 20, marking the first time the number of cases has exceeded 7 million. This accounts for 21% of the 32.38 million cases worldwide.
The U.S. saw a decline in new COVID-19 cases from June to mid-July, but the numbers have been rising again this month. In California, the number of COVID-19 cases surpassed 800,000 on the same day.
The number of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. was counted at 203,240.
There are four countries worldwide with more than 1 million COVID-19 cases, including the U.S., India (about 5,818,000), Brazil (about 4,657,000), and Russia (about 1,131,000).
Among these, India reports more than 80,000 new cases per day, which is twice the number in the U.S. Because of this, the possibility of India surpassing the U.S. is increasing.
