[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Yeosu City Council (Chairman Jeon Chang-gon) has enacted an ordinance to provide necessary expenses such as activity fees and fuel costs to participants involved in water rescue operations.
According to the city council, the "Yeosu City Water Rescue Participant Support Ordinance," proposed by Councilor Kim Haeng-gi, was passed at the recently concluded 204th extraordinary session.
The core of this ordinance is to support rescuers involved in distress incidents occurring in the maritime and inland waters under Yeosu City's jurisdiction.
The ordinance allows for the provision of activity fees, fuel costs, and material mobilization expenses within the budget to civilians, private organizations, and owners of vessels or equipment who participate in rescue operations either upon request from public institutions or voluntarily.
Specific support criteria will follow the relevant laws, such as the Water Rescue Act, while allowing adjustments based on local conditions.
Participants seeking reimbursement for rescue expenses must submit a water rescue expense claim form to Yeosu City via the Yeosu Coast Guard or Yeosu Fire Station.
The ordinance also includes provisions to reward participants who have made significant contributions to water rescue operations in accordance with the Yeosu City Award Ordinance.
Councilor Kim Haeng-gi stated, "In the event of a water distress incident, prompt rescue is of utmost importance," adding, "It is only natural to provide activity fees to rescuers who risk their lives to save precious lives."
