Governor Won Hee-ryong Transforms into Daily Mask Evangelist

Promotion of Continuous Mask Wearing for Residents and Tourists at Jeju International Airport

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, made a surprise transformation into a mask evangelist on the 25th.

At 11 a.m. that day, Governor Won participated in the ‘Mask Wearing Habit Promotion Campaign’ at Jeju International Airport, urging residents and tourists visiting Jeju to wear masks at all times during their stay on the island.

The campaign included participation from 15 private organizations and local self-governing groups, including the Jeju Volunteer Council.

Governor Won said, “Masks are the best vaccine to prevent COVID-19,” and urged, “Please be sure to wear a mask when going out.”

He added, “If you develop a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher after arriving in Jeju, please immediately report to a public health center or screening clinic and get tested.”

He also conveyed, “I hope everyone will have a wonderful civic consciousness that protects their own health as well as the health of their neighbors.”

Governor Won joined the event where private and local organizations distributed masks and straps (mask necklaces) to incoming visitors, providing guidance on proper mask-wearing methods and mask mandates.

This campaign was conducted in response to a special administrative measure enforcing mandatory mask-wearing for all arrivals through airports and harbors during the Chuseok holiday period from the 26th to the 4th of next month.

Meanwhile, Jeju Province plans to distribute 53,000 cotton masks to daycare children before the Chuseok holiday and provide about 175,000 masks to the Jeju Provincial Office of Education for teachers and after-school instructors who have face-to-face contact with students at schools.
