GS Caltex Develops Corporate Electric Vehicle Charging Model with Korea Electric Power Corporation

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] GS Caltex is accelerating the expansion of the electric vehicle ecosystem by partnering with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

On the 25th, GS Caltex signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a partnership to develop a corporate electric vehicle charging service model with KEPCO at the GS Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Both companies plan to secure corporate electric vehicle customers and expand charging infrastructure.

Through this MOU, the two companies will promote charging services targeting GS Caltex’s corporate customers who use electric vehicles. GS Caltex’s corporate electric vehicles will be able to use KEPCO’s nationwide charging infrastructure of over 8,600 stations.

GS Caltex also plans to offer various additional services such as car washing and maintenance, which are provided at gas stations, to corporate customers using KEPCO’s electric vehicle charging facilities.

Furthermore, to allow electric vehicle customers to enjoy the accessibility of the gas station network, GS Caltex will accelerate the expansion and distribution of fast chargers at its gas stations.

Both companies agree on the necessity of electric vehicle charging infrastructure through gas stations and are considering plans to expand the installation of fast chargers at GS Caltex gas stations nationwide.

Additionally, they will jointly develop a system to enable the integration of GS Caltex’s and KEPCO’s electric vehicle charging platforms.

Currently incompatible, the companies plan to enable mutual payment for electric vehicle charging fees. Customers of each company will be able to freely use charging cards interchangeably.

A GS Caltex official said, "We expect that this partnership with KEPCO will greatly enhance convenience for customers using electric vehicles," adding, "We will continue to cooperate with related industries to expand the electric vehicle ecosystem."

Meanwhile, GS Caltex operates 46 fast chargers of 100 kW or more at 40 locations nationwide and plans to install fast chargers at 70 gas stations by the end of this year.
