[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Kim Dong-pyo] President Moon Jae-in expressed "deep regret over the shocking incident" regarding the case in which North Korean military shot and killed a missing South Korean government official.

On the 24th, Kang Min-seok, the Blue House spokesperson, stated in a Chuncheon briefing, "President Moon Jae-in received a report on the results of the NSC standing committee meeting and government countermeasures from Chief of Staff Noh Young-min and National Security Office Director Suh Hoon this afternoon, and said the following."

President Moon said, "This cannot be tolerated for any reason. The North Korean authorities must provide a responsible response and take appropriate measures," adding, "The military must further strengthen its alert posture and be fully prepared to protect the lives and safety of the people."

Earlier, the Blue House held an NSC meeting and stated, "The North Korean military's shooting and killing of our citizen who was unarmed and had no intention to resist, and the mutilation of the body, cannot be justified for any reason," urging, "North Korea must apologize for this inhumane act and take clear measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents."
