[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] EBS's popular character 'Pengsoo' will appear at the National Assembly audit next month.
The National Assembly Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee held a plenary meeting on the 24th and approved the '2020 National Assembly Audit Witness and Reference Witness Adoption Plan', which includes adopting the unnamed EBS Pengsoo character performer as a reference witness for the upcoming audit.
Accordingly, the Pengsoo character performer must attend the Korea Broadcasting System and Educational Broadcasting System audit scheduled for October 15. Pengsoo is a penguin character featured in the EBS program 'Giant Peng TV' and gained great popularity last year. It is known that Assemblyman Seunghui Hwangbo of the People Power Party requested Pengsoo's attendance as a reference witness. In response, netizens have expressed disbelief, questioning "Why is Pengsoo a witness at the audit?"
Besides the Pengsoo character performer, the approved witness and reference witness list includes Nancy Mable Walker, CEO of Google Korea; Reginald Sean Thompson, CEO of Netflix Services Korea; Yoo Sang-young, Head of SK Telecom MNO Business; Kang Guk-hyun, Head of KT Customer Division; Hwang Hyun-sik, President of LG Uplus; Lee Tae-hyun, CEO of Wavve; Lee Jae-hwan, CEO of One Store; and Jung Jin-soo, Senior Vice President of NCSoft.
Representatives of Kakao and Naver, recently embroiled in controversies over portal dominance, were not included.
