[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The People Power Party has finalized its new logo and party colors. After postponing three times, the party colors were decided as red, blue, and white, but criticism has emerged within the party, calling it an "obsession with change."
On the 24th, the People Power Party decided on a new logo that three-dimensionally represents a flat square combining the Korean characters 'ㄱ' and 'ㅁ' from the word "Gukmin" (People), along with three party colors.
The party colors use red as the primary color, with blue and white as secondary colors. This reflects the party's intention to boldly break away from the ideological dichotomy of conservatism and progressivism and to emerge as an inclusive party that unites the people.
Yellow, which was part of the previously announced three primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, has been removed. Initially, the People Power Party planned to finalize the party colors and logo on the 18th, but the date was postponed three times?from the 18th to the 20th, then to the 21st, and finally to the 22nd.
The emergency committee proposed three colors, but some lawmakers preferred the existing "Happy Pink," causing a split between the party's internal opinion and the emergency committee's view. Ultimately, Emergency Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in finalized the proposal on the 23rd with red, blue, and white.
Criticism has also been voiced regarding this decision. On the same day, lawmaker Jang Je-won criticized on Facebook, saying, "Chairman Kim showed excessive obsession over the issue of changing the party colors and ultimately enforced his will," and questioned, "Can't the party colors be decided according to the majority opinion of the lawmakers?"
He added, "Changing the party's symbolic colors should have been a matter resolved by gathering various opinions in a harmonious atmosphere and deciding in the direction desired by the majority. If this was a stubborn act driven by an obsession with change, it only piled up another layer of dissatisfaction among lawmakers. The emergency committee committed a 'small greed causing a great loss (소탐대실).'"
