[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] On the 24th, the National Tax Service (NTS) opened the 'National Tax Statistics Center Seoul Branch' and held a plaque unveiling ceremony.
The National Tax Statistics Center is a facility that supports researchers in directly analyzing the basic data used for compiling national tax statistics to produce the desired statistics.
Since its first opening in Sejong in June 2018, 14 institutions including the Korea Institute of Public Finance and Statistics Korea have utilized it for various research and analysis purposes.
Until now, users of the National Tax Statistics Center were limited to central administrative agencies, local governments, and government-funded research institutes, but recently, the scope of users has been expanded to include universities, private research institutes, and public institutions through legal amendments.
Kim Dae-ji, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, stated, "In the era of the data economy, national tax information is an important national resource, and disclosure and utilization for public interest purposes such as tax policy research should be actively promoted." He added, "With the opening of the National Tax Statistics Center Seoul Branch, it is expected that the use of national tax information by universities and private research institutes located in the metropolitan area will be further activated."
