[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] According to a public opinion poll, 7 out of 10 citizens responded that the drive-thru rally, one of the methods planned for the 'Gaecheonjeol rally' by conservative groups on the 3rd of next month, should be banned.


The results of a survey on the drive-thru rally method, conducted by the polling agency Realmeter commissioned by Traffic Broadcasting System (TBS), were released on the 24th. The response that the rally should be banned "from the perspective of COVID-19 prevention" recorded 70.9%, while the response that it "should be guaranteed as a freedom of assembly right" was only 23.6%. "Don't know" accounted for 5.5%.


Among the respondents, the proportion of those supporting the ban on drive-thru rallies was higher among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea. Among Democratic Party supporters, 93.0% responded that the drive-thru rally should be banned, showing a strong intention to prohibit the rally. Among the respondents supporting the People Power Party, 50.9% said the drive-thru rally should be guaranteed, while 43.6% said it should be banned.


The survey was conducted on the 23rd with 500 citizens aged 18 and over nationwide, and the sampling error is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
