[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Daewoo E&C announced on the 24th that it will introduce the Half-Precast Concrete PC (Precast Concrete) method for rooftop structures of apartments.
The Half-Precast Concrete PC method is a technique where concrete structures such as columns, beams, walls, and slabs are pre-manufactured in a factory and assembled on-site.
On the 1st, Daewoo E&C completed the production of a full-scale mockup at the 'Daewoo E&C Technology Research Institute' located in Songjuk-dong, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. By applying the Half-PC method to apartment construction, Daewoo E&C expects to achieve revolutionary reductions in construction time and improvements in quality.
The full-PC method, which assembles concrete structures pre-manufactured in a factory like 'Lego' blocks on-site, has advantages such as shortening construction periods and improving construction quality compared to traditional methods. However, it has disadvantages including heavy materials that make transportation and lifting difficult, as well as poor sound insulation and leakage performance.
The Half-PC method developed by Daewoo E&C this time is evaluated to perfectly complement the shortcomings of the full-PC method. The Half-PC method manufactures Half-PC materials at less than half the thickness of existing full-PC materials in the factory, transports them, and then places the remaining rebar and pours concrete on-site.
Half-PC materials are lighter than full-PC materials, making transportation and lifting easier. For buildings of the same volume, there are fewer joints between PC materials, and since some concrete is poured wet on-site, it has excellent sound insulation and leakage performance.
According to a Daewoo E&C official, rooftop structures of apartments constructed using traditional methods generally take at least 45 days due to decreased work efficiency and safety issues, whereas applying the Half-PC method can complete rooftop structures within 7 to 10 days. The revolutionary reduction in rooftop construction time allows for early dismantling of tower cranes and enables the early start of subsequent processes.
Daewoo E&C plans to pre-apply the rooftop Half-PC method to some complexes currently under construction through design review and intends to expand its application from rooftop structures to standard apartment floors and underground parking lots.
A Daewoo E&C official said, "Following last year's rooftop modular method, we are the first domestic construction company to develop the rooftop Half-PC method. Through continuous technological development, Daewoo E&C will strive to lead the global smart construction market," adding, "We are developing various smart construction technologies such as on-site work automation and automated on-site structural technical support programs."
