Promotion of Comprehensive Chuseok Measures for a Safe and Comfortable Holiday, Operation of Response Task Force to Prevent COVID-19 Spread... 24-Hour Comprehensive Situation Room Operated for 7 Days from September 29 to October 5... Emergency Duty System Maintained with 347 Personnel in 6 Areas: Water Management, Traffic, Medical, Parks, Cleaning, and COVID-19 Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) is implementing a "Chuseok Comprehensive Plan" to celebrate Korea's largest traditional holiday, Chuseok.
During the Chuseok holiday period, a total of 347 district employees, including 107 personnel dedicated to COVID-19 response, will maintain emergency duty to ensure residents have a safe and comfortable holiday.
This year’s new Chuseok measures include operating a dedicated COVID-19 response team, special inspections of quarantine rules at multi-use facilities, and strengthening quarantine measures at traditional markets.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters judged that quarantine management during the Chuseok holiday would be a critical turning point for COVID-19, urging minimal travel such as hometown visits and trips. In response, Yangcheon-gu has prepared a comprehensive Chuseok plan with additional quarantine measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
From 6 p.m. on the 29th until 9 a.m. on October 5th, six task forces for flood control, traffic, medical care, parks, cleaning, and COVID-19 will be established, operating under a comprehensive situation room. The situation room will operate 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies during the holiday period.
□ Continuous COVID-19 Response System and Emergency Medical System During the Holiday
During the holiday, the district will continue its COVID-19 response system. Call centers and screening clinics will operate, and emergency duty will be carried out by teams managing self-quarantine, epidemiological investigation, patient transport, and disinfection to minimize gaps in COVID-19 management.
Residents with suspected symptoms can consult the call center and receive testing at screening clinics from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dedicated public officials for self-quarantine will maintain a 24-hour monitoring system and promptly report any suspected violations.
To prevent COVID-19 spread, special inspections will be conducted on entry log management and compliance with core quarantine rules at multi-use facilities such as restaurants, coffee shops, academies, indoor sports facilities, and churches. Quarantine and inspections will also be strengthened at traditional markets within the district.
Additionally, an emergency medical task force will be activated in case of illness during the holiday, and hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies open during the holiday will be designated and operated. Information is available on the district website and the Emergency Medical Information Center.
□ A Safe and Comfortable Chuseok
A Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters composed of 13 teams will operate to enable immediate response in case of disasters. Weather conditions will be monitored 24 hours a day to prepare for wind and flood damage, and safety management of construction sites, multi-use facilities, fire prevention, and inspections of parks and green spaces will be conducted.
During the holiday, a traffic task force will operate to guide public transportation services and enforce illegal parking regulations and controls.
Cleaning measures have been thoroughly prepared. All household waste will be collected and delivered to resource recovery facilities by September 29. From October 1 to 4, when deliveries to these facilities are suspended, residents will be encouraged to refrain from waste disposal, and waste collection days by neighborhood will be announced. During the holiday, cleaning and mobile teams will be organized to collect illegal dumping and piled-up waste to minimize inconvenience.
□ Bringing Hearts Closer Despite Social Distancing... Sharing Chuseok with Neighbors
During the holiday, feelings toward the lonely and disadvantaged neighbors have grown warmer. A donation and sharing campaign for low-income residents will be conducted to deliver daily necessities and food. Consolation funds (and goods) will be provided to over ten thousand low-income residents, including recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, and daily necessities and rice will be delivered to local welfare facilities. To ensure no child goes hungry during the holiday, “Mom’s Lunchbox” will also be delivered. Started in 2015, “Mom’s Lunchbox” has been delivered to over 500 children, conveying warm hearts along with meals.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “During the Chuseok holiday, we will actively promote COVID-19 prevention and quarantine strengthening, disaster and accident preparedness, and support for vulnerable groups to ensure the health and safety of residents. We have carefully prepared measures in each sector so that residents can have a safe and comfortable holiday at home amid the atmosphere of refraining from hometown visits. I urge everyone to minimize travel and strictly follow quarantine rules so that this holiday does not become a turning point for COVID-19 spread.”
