Development and Operation of Blended Career Counseling and Major Department Programs
High Student Response to College Life Adaptation and Sense of Belonging Enhancement Courses
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Silla University operates a three-stage campus immersion program to help freshmen adapt to university life.
The program, designed to enhance freshmen's academic motivation, consists of career counseling and department-led activities related to majors. It was developed internally by the university and has been conducted since March this year using a combination of online and offline methods.
The Silla University Education Innovation Headquarters continuously promoted the program to colleges and departments within the university, resulting in participation by over 3,000 freshmen.
Due to restrictions on face-to-face activities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic this year, Silla University planned a blended program combining online and offline activities.
Through the university website, the 'Freshman University Life Guide' service is operated, alongside a freshman welcome quiz event, the Sillain's Song UCC contest, distribution of the Silla Student Success Guidebook, production of administrative department exploration videos, and department-specific orientations, all encouraging freshmen participation.
Various online and offline programs are underway to enhance students' adaptation and sense of belonging, including campus tours strictly adhering to COVID-19 response guidelines, one-on-one personality type tests and career counseling, life planning, and special lectures by major professors.
A freshman from the Department of Aviation, who participated in the program, said, "I was disappointed that campus life was limited due to COVID-19, but I was glad to experience university life through this program."
Building on the success of this campus immersion program, Silla University plans to expand and operate various programs for freshmen again next year.
