[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Dong-A Socio Holdings held a certificate presentation ceremony for joining the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) at its headquarters on the 23rd. The UNGC is a voluntary corporate citizenship initiative under the UN that encourages companies to incorporate the ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption into their operations and management strategies, thereby participating in enhancing sustainability and corporate citizenship awareness, and provides practical measures. More than 14,000 companies and organizations from 157 countries worldwide participate in it.
The company stated that through this membership, it will internalize the ten principles of the UNGC and strive to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN to realize sustainable development and social responsibility. The UN SDGs were adopted at the UN General Assembly in 2015 as goals that the international community agreed to achieve by 2030 to solve global poverty issues and realize sustainable development. They are divided into three major areas: social inclusion, economic growth, and sustainable environment, consisting of 17 goals and 169 detailed targets.
Han Jong-hyun, President of Dong-A Socio Holdings, said, "We will become familiar with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN and increase our understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities that the implementation of the UN SDGs will bring."
