6,000-pyeong Scale... Entire 2nd Floor Cafeteria
Indoor Lounge Space Planned for Fans
"We Will Elevate K-pop's Status in the Global Market"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] YG Entertainment's new headquarters, which has been meticulously developed over the past eight years, has finally been completed.
YG Entertainment announced on the 23rd that the relocation of some personnel and facilities began on the 16th following the completion of the new headquarters.
The new YG headquarters is located in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and was built right next to the previous building.
The new headquarters covers a site area of 3,145㎡ (approximately 1,000 pyeong) with five basement floors and nine above-ground floors, totaling 6,000 pyeong of indoor space. This is ten times the indoor area of the previous building.
To build the new headquarters, YG sequentially purchased surrounding land over four years starting in 2012, began construction in 2016, and it took four years to complete.
Regarding the reason for constructing the new headquarters, YG Entertainment explained, "Although there was an easier option to purchase an already built building, since we operate in a specialized music industry, we could not cause noise disturbances to the surrounding commercial areas or residents. Perfect soundproofing between floors and rooms was necessary, and for thick soundproofing facilities, a high ceiling height was essential. This is very difficult without thorough calculations from the architectural planning stage."
The existing building, which has been used for the past 10 years, will be connected to the new headquarters via an above-ground connecting bridge.
The new YG headquarters includes a double-height auditorium, seven large dance practice rooms, seven large recording studios, and 30 private music studios for exclusive composers and artists.
Additionally, the entire second floor above ground, spanning hundreds of pyeong, has been designed as a modern dining zone. YG’s cafeteria, known for its home-cooked meal atmosphere, has been featured multiple times on broadcasts.
The basement floors of the new headquarters are equipped with large-scale fitness and recreational facilities, showing attention to the convenience and welfare of employees and affiliated artists.
YG stated, "It has been 10 years since we moved into the previous building, and since then, related business areas and personnel have greatly increased, leading us to rent several additional nearby buildings. We expect that once all the scattered teams gather in the new headquarters by the end of this year, work efficiency will significantly improve."
YG also plans to establish welfare facilities specifically for fans. They will lease an entire small newly constructed building located opposite the new headquarters to create rest areas and convenience facilities for fans by the end of this year.
YG said, "Many overseas fans have come to see our affiliated artists from afar in front of the building, but the problem was that fans had to stand on the streets even during the bitterly cold winters and scorching summers, which caused us much concern. Especially, there were limitations in using basic facilities like restrooms, and we felt very sorry about that."
Having produced many famous artists over the years, YG will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. Currently, YG houses numerous famous singers and actors, including Big Bang, BLACKPINK, WINNER, iKON, AKMU, and the rookie group TREASURE.
YG expressed their ambition, saying, "We will actively nurture new artists in the state-of-the-art new headquarters and contribute to elevating the status of K-pop in the global market."
