[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A hub space where people can exchange opinions and experience the growth of social value has been established in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Seo-gu announced on the 23rd that it has opened the ‘Seoro Seoro I-eum Social Value Support Center,’ created as a hub space to realize social value.
The construction of the Social Value Support Center was promoted after being selected in April 2018 for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s community revitalization foundation project, with a total investment of 1.5 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW each from national, city, and district funds.
Construction began in December last year, and the building, consisting of one basement floor and three above-ground floors, was completed in June.
The center houses the Village Community Comprehensive Support Center, Seo-gu Volunteer Center, and Goods Sharing Center, and is equipped with various facilities such as a community hall, shared kitchen, and meeting rooms.
About 50 people, including Seo Daeseok, the head of Seo-gu, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and residents, attended the opening ceremony, which proceeded with a ribbon-cutting, construction progress report, and naming contest awards.
At the subsequent signing ceremony, Seo Daeseok, head of Seo-gu, Kim Taeyoung, chairman of the Seo-gu Council, and Ryu Hanho, co-chairman of the Gwangju Social Innovation Platform, attended and signed an agreement to realize social value in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The agreement includes content on creating a citizen-led social value ecosystem where citizens themselves discover various local community issues, derive solutions, and conduct experiments.
Going forward, the Social Value Support Center plans to promote various projects such as one-stop support related to social value, discovering organizations that realize social value, spreading awareness of social value, and capacity-building programs.
Seo Daeseok, head of Seo-gu, said, “Social value, which seeks solutions to social problems through community solidarity, is becoming increasingly important. We will strive to ensure that the center serves as a platform where various residents and organizations contemplating social value can freely share their thoughts and collectively experience the growth of social value.”
