The Office of Education introduced the living wage system by enacting the "Jeollanam-do Office of Education Living Wage Ordinance (May 14, 2020)" last May, so that workers can support their families and maintain dignity as human beings in various fields such as education and culture, enabling a practical livelihood.
Accordingly, considering comprehensively the government minimum wage, financial status, COVID-19 situation, and expected consumer price inflation rate, the living wage for next year was calculated and decided to be 9,220 KRW (hourly wage). This is an increase of 5.73% (104,500 KRW per month) compared to next year's minimum wage of 8,720 KRW per hour.
This living wage will be applied from January 1 next year, and 896 workers who currently earn less than the living wage (including replacements for educational public officials with less than one month of service, replacements for local government officials, and those subject to the minimum wage) will benefit.
Superintendent Jang Seok-woong stated, "Although finances have worsened due to the COVID-19 disaster, we decided on the living wage with the hope that it will help our educational family to lead at least a minimally humane life."
