[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus's augmented reality (AR) glasses, launched on the 21st of last month, sold out the initial batch of 1,000 units within one month.


LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that the initial online and offline stock of the AR glasses 'U+ Real Glass' has been depleted. A representative from LG Uplus stated, "Despite being a new type of smart device, the first batch of 1,000 units of U+ Real Glass sold out within a month due to strong customer response," adding, "Compared to an overseas AR glasses company that received 2.8 trillion KRW in investments from Google, Alibaba, and AT&T and sold 6,000 units globally over six months, this is a remarkable achievement solely in the domestic market."


The non-face-to-face online channel introducing and selling U+ Real Glass recorded the highest-ever number of real-time purchases and consultations. During a live broadcast of U+ Real Glass on LG Uplus's official online mall 'U+ Shop' on the 18th, which lasted about an hour, consultation requests surged to more than ten times the usual number.


The recruitment for the 'Early Tester' experience group offering free trials of U+ Real Glass also gained high demand through word of mouth online. The recruitment, which closed on the 19th, received over 2,500 applications for only 100 spots.


U+ Real Glass is a wearable device that displays desired content through its lenses. The lenses are transparent, allowing users to see ahead while using the service, and users can freely arrange and resize content screens in a 360-degree space around them. LG Uplus explained that the screen size can be expanded to over 100 inches, providing an immersive experience when watching sports games, movies, concerts, and more.


Jung Hye-yoon, Executive Director of Marketing Strategy at LG Uplus, said, "We are conducting various activities to help customers naturally recognize and experience the form factor of AR glasses, which did not exist in the market," adding, "With the recent social atmosphere increasing demand for media viewing at home, we expect the utilization of U+ Real Glass to grow even further."
