[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Samyook University announced that it will accept applications for the 2021 academic year early admission from the 23rd to the 28th.
The number of recruits is 883 (797 within quota, 86 outside quota), accounting for 71.67% of the total early and regular admission combined. The main admission types within the quota are Academic Aptitude Excellence (232), Outstanding School Life (173), and Student Record Excellence (161).
The Academic Aptitude Excellence admission selects candidates based on 60% student records and 40% aptitude test scores. Although the student record ratio is relatively high at 60%, the score difference between grades up to the 5th grade is not significant, allowing sufficient recovery through aptitude test scores. It is regarded as a chance for students with mid-level grades to enter universities in the metropolitan area. Especially, since the aptitude test admission will be abolished after this year according to the Ministry of Education's policy, it is attracting much attention from applicants. The aptitude test consists of 60 questions, 30 each in Korean and Mathematics, to be completed within one hour. It is a multiple-choice test with four options, designed at a level that any student who has thoroughly prepared for high school classes and the College Scholastic Ability Test can solve.
The Outstanding School Life admission selects 173 students. In the first stage, 4 times the number of candidates are selected based on 100% document evaluation, and in the second stage, students are selected by combining 60% of the first stage score and 40% interview score. The first stage document evaluation comprehensively assesses areas such as major suitability and personality based on the school life record (curricular and extracurricular) and self-introduction letter. Academic grades are comprehensively evaluated in comparison with the content of the self-introduction letter and are not quantitatively assessed.
The Student Record Excellence admission (161 students) reflects 100% student records for all departments except arts and physical education. The Art and Design Department and Music Department apply 20% student records and 80% practical skills, while the Physical Education Department applies 60% student records and 40% practical skills. Student records from the first semester of the first year to the first semester of the third year are reflected without grade weighting. Except for the specialized high school admission, all admissions select and reflect three subjects among Korean, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, or Science.
The minimum College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) requirement applies only to the Nursing and Physical Therapy departments in the Student Record Excellence admission. The combined score of two areas among Korean, English, Mathematics (Type A/B), Social Studies (average of two subjects), or Science (average of two subjects) must be within the 6th grade. Other admissions and departments have no minimum CSAT requirement. Cross-application is possible for all admissions.
There are also newly established departments. The Department of Intelligent Information Convergence integrates the Department of Management Information and the Department of IT Convergence Engineering. It cultivates professionals with AI-centered engineering expertise along with humanities and social science literacy and managerial insight. This early admission will select the first 80 freshmen. The Department of Aviation Tourism Foreign Languages, which fosters professionals in the aviation and tourism fields (37 recruits), was also newly established this year. The Architecture Department added a 4-year general degree program separately from the 5-year professional degree program linked to the architect qualification system. The number of recruits is 10.
