"Over 700 Athletes and Staff from 30 Countries Worldwide Gather in Yeosu"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 22nd that it has successfully secured the hosting rights for the '2021 Korea Open Championships' international tournament.
Since hosting the Korea Open tournament at Heungkuk Gymnasium in 2002, Yeosu will once again host the major international Korea Open tournament after 19 years.
The tournament hosting was finalized when the Badminton Korea Association held its 78th board meeting on the 17th and confirmed Yeosu as the host city for international badminton tournaments from 2021 to 2023.
This achievement is the result of accumulated hosting know-how from previous large-scale events, and the efforts of related parties such as the Sports Council who frequently visited the Badminton Korea Association and explained and persuaded them about the sports infrastructure and conditions during on-site inspections.
The tournament will be held for six days from August 31 to September 5 next year at the Jinnam Stadium area, with over 700 top-level badminton players and staff from 30 countries around the world participating.
Additionally, the tournament will be broadcasted to 20 countries domestically and internationally.
Yeosu City stated, "With the hosting of this international tournament, about 20,000 athletes and spectators are expected to visit Yeosu," adding, "It will provide opportunities to watch world-class players, revitalize the local economy, greatly contribute to the development of domestic badminton enthusiasts and community sports, and further elevate the international status of Yeosu as a marine tourism and leisure city."
