[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Jeonnam Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 22nd that it will start operating the 1000-won bus from the 1st of next month.
The 1000-won bus is one of the transportation welfare pledges of the 7th local government administration, implementing a single fare system that lowers the rural bus fare operating in the Hwasun area to 1000 won for adults.
With the single fare system in place, adults can travel anywhere within the Hwasun area for 1000 won, middle and high school students for 800 won, and elementary school students for 500 won.
Ahead of the 1000-won bus operation, the county signed a business agreement with Hwasun Transportation Co., Ltd. on the same day and agreed to implement the 1000-won fare system.
It is expected that the 1000-won bus operation will reduce transportation costs for all residents using the bus, including those in remote areas, and will greatly contribute to improving transportation welfare along with services expanded during the 7th local government administration such as the ‘Mom Comfortable 100-won Taxi’ and ‘Disabled Call Taxi’.
From the 1st of next month, when the 1000-won bus operation begins, the increased rural bus fares and rates will be applied.
The base fare will increase from 1300 won to 1500 won for adults, from 1000 won to 1200 won for middle and high school students (ages 13-18), and from 650 won to 750 won for elementary school students (ages 6-12).
For distances exceeding 10 km, an additional fare of 131.82 won per km will be applied according to the intercity bus fare rate.
When paying with a transportation card, adults receive a 100 won discount, and middle/high school and elementary students receive a 50 won discount, allowing bus use at fares of 1400 won for adults, 1150 won for middle/high school students, and 700 won for elementary students.
In the Hwasun area, the 1000-won bus operation applies a single fare system (1000 won for adults) regardless of the transport section, but if traveling to other areas such as Gwangju Metropolitan City, the increased fare must be paid.
A county official stated, “Even though fares are increased, the 1000-won fare will apply when traveling within the county area, so there will be almost no increase in the economic burden on residents,” and added, “We will operate the 1000-won bus stably to ensure there is no inconvenience in using public transportation due to fare increases.”
