[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 22nd, the People Power Party criticized Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae for saying to opposition party lawmakers, while the microphone was still on after the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee declared a recess, “You made a good choice to be a lawmaker instead of a prosecutor. It seems you will catch many innocent people.” The party stated, “Lawmakers who ask questions are there representing the people, and insulting lawmakers is an insult to the people.”

People Power Party spokesperson Bae Jun-young said in a statement that day, “It was just the other day that we heard ‘You’re writing fiction.’ This is already the second time,” adding, “At this point, it’s suspicious whether insults are being openly given.”

Spokesperson Bae emphasized, “Three strikes and you’re out,” and said, “If such behavior occurs one more time, there must be strong sanctions at the National Assembly level.”

Bae also said, “We hope the Speaker of the National Assembly, who represents the lawmakers, will issue a warning,” and added, “Continuing to overlook such behavior is causing the authority of the National Assembly to fall to the ground.”
