[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] Comedian Kim Cheol-min, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last August and has been battling the disease, announced that he has stopped taking fenbendazole (a dewormer for dogs) and albendazole (a dewormer for humans) that he was using for treatment.
On the 22nd, Kim appeared on CBS's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "I knew I didn't have much time left, so I took a chance hoping to grasp at straws." He added, "At first, the pain was less, my liver levels returned to normal, and my voice improved, so I thought there was hope." He also said, "As fenbendazole became hard to obtain due to a craze among cancer patients, I started taking albendazole (a dewormer for humans) out of simple greed."
However, after five months of taking the drugs, Kim's liver levels rose again, and the cancer metastasis began to spread further. He said, "There may be people who take it after seeing me, and many are interested, so I will clearly say if I get better or if I don't. Personally, I have clearly failed and worsened, so I absolutely do not want to recommend (fenbendazole)."
Kim concluded, "I think every day now is a gift. Thanks to your many prayers, I am miraculously holding on well. I am very, very grateful." He added, "You must not let go of the thread of hope. Keep praying, never lose hope, and if you endure diligently, good medicine will come."
Meanwhile, last year, an American man who was given a terminal diagnosis for lung cancer took fenbendazole for three months to fight the cancer and was cured. After this case became known, interest in fenbendazole increased domestically, especially among cancer patients.
