- Reflections on Expectations for the World's Only Real-Time Ray Tracing GPU IP 'RayCore'
- Anticipated Expansion of Ray Tracing Application Areas
Fabless semiconductor company Silicon Arts Inc. (CEO Hyungmin Yoon) announced on the 22nd that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for business cooperation with NewGenGraphics, a subsidiary of the U.S. technology innovation startup Pixilica (CEO Atif Zafar).
According to the memorandum of understanding (MOU), Silicon Arts Inc. will provide the real-time ray tracing IP ‘RayCore’ GPU IP, and NewGenGraphics will develop advanced graphics processing architectures applying the licensed ‘RayCore,’ and will be responsible for the production of FPGAs and embedded solutions applying the developed architectures as well as global sales.
‘Ray Tracing’ is a next-generation 3D graphic rendering technique introduced through some high-end games, which realistically expresses light effects such as reflection and refraction by tracing light sources, providing natural graphics effects similar to reality. Additionally, it simplifies the workload and inconvenience compared to traditional rendering tasks and drastically reduces rendering time. With the advent of the full-fledged 5G era, it is recognized as the most notable graphic technology and is expected to see explosive growth in utilization across various fields.
Silicon Arts Inc. is a fabless semiconductor company that developed and commercialized the world’s first real-time ray tracing GPU IP series, ‘RayCore.’ In 2019, it was selected as one of the ‘Top 10 High-Performance Computing Solution Providers of 2019’ by APAC CIO Outlook. This year, it launched ‘RayCore MC,’ a path tracing GPU IP that provides even more vivid graphic effects by adding top-tier graphic core effects such as ‘Soft Shadow’ and ‘Global Illumination.’
Silicon Arts and NewGenGraphics will first collaborate to ensure that the new graphics architecture developed by applying Silicon Arts’ ‘RayCore’ IP achieves superior performance and competitiveness compared to existing graphics architectures. Through this process, they plan to cooperate in developing and producing customized solutions that customers desire by utilizing the integrated architecture version verified through development.
Through this memorandum of understanding (MOU), Silicon Arts is expected to expand the range of products applying its unique real-time ray tracing technology from existing PC and mobile graphics fields to FPGA and embedded fields, while NewGenGraphics will have the opportunity to provide new solutions applying real-time ray tracing GPUs to the market.
Hyungmin Yoon, CEO of Silicon Arts, stated, “Pixilica, a U.S. technology startup, is showing proactiveness by establishing NewGenGraphics, a new company dedicated solely to RayCore, which reflects the high value and expectations of ‘real-time ray tracing’ in the 5G era.” He added, “In addition to this MOU, we plan to expand the application range and diversify the sales fields of the real-time ray tracing GPU IP ‘RayCore’ through active sales activities in the U.S., China, Taiwan, and other regions.”
