Baemin "Enjoy Traditional Market Restaurants Now with Delivery"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Woowa Brothers announced on the 22nd that they will open a traditional market page on 'Baedal Minjok' (hereafter Baemin), which gathers restaurants located inside traditional markets.

Woowa Brothers explained that, with a commitment to revitalizing traditional markets and after considering support methods, they made a first attempt to gather stores located within traditional markets on the Baemin app to enable easy ordering and delivery. Popular market menus such as snacks and Korean food, as well as fusion dishes recently spreading in traditional markets centered around young merchants, will be available through Baemin.

For the opening of this traditional market page, Baemin selected markets where delivery workers can easily enter for delivery and worked closely with the respective market merchant associations to listen to and reflect the merchants' needs. The participating markets are four traditional markets within Seoul: Saemaeul Market in Jamsil, Songpa-gu; Mangwon Market and Mangwon World Cup Market in Mapo-gu; and Bongcheon Jeil General Market in Gwanak-gu.

If delivery from a nearby traditional market is available based on the destination address, users can check the list of stores in the respective traditional market by clicking the traditional market banner displayed on the Baemin app main page or by searching the keyword "traditional market" in the app search bar. There are plans to expand participating markets nationwide, including the metropolitan area, in the future.

Along with this, Baemin decided to refund the full commission on orders made through the traditional market page in Biz Points until the end of this year to help traditional market merchants struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and weakened consumer sentiment. Biz Points can be used like cash to purchase necessary items for stores or Baemin advertising products at 'Baemin Sanghoe,' a specialized food ingredient shopping mall for self-employed business owners.

Park Jung-bin, Head of Baemin Business Operations, said, "Traditional markets will secure new business opportunities through the Baemin platform, and customers will be able to easily enjoy traditional market delicacies that previously required visiting in person through delivery, which is expected to receive positive responses from both merchants and customers." He added, "We will continue to consider and implement various support measures that contribute to revitalizing local commercial districts."
