[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Workers who exposed the inadequate quarantine measures at Coupang during the COVID-19 cluster infection incident at the Bucheon logistics center in May this year have filed an unfair dismissal lawsuit against the company.
The 'Coupang COVID-19 Victims Group' announced on the 21st that workers A and B filed a lawsuit for confirmation of unfair dismissal and a damages claim lawsuit for violation of the Labor Standards Act at the Seoul Eastern District Court on the 16th.
According to the group, worker A had revealed Coupang's insufficient quarantine measures through various media interviews. Worker B also demanded an apology from the company regarding the Bucheon logistics center cluster infection incident.
The victims group explained, "After the termination of their labor contracts on July 31 of this year, Coupang sent contract renewal notices only to other employees, excluding these two individuals." It is known that Coupang did not even properly explain the reasons for their dismissal to them.
The group claimed, "Both individuals were recognized as having work-related injuries due to injuries sustained during work," and "the company violated the Labor Standards Act by dismissing them during the industrial accident medical care period." They further demanded, "Coupang should acknowledge the unfair dismissal and pay the equivalent amount of wages."
