[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), in-person classes could not be conducted at 123 schools across 4 cities and provinces nationwide.
As of 10 a.m. on this day, the Ministry of Education announced that 6,985 schools had started in-person classes compared to the total number of school days.
Ninety schools adjusted their in-person classes again, reducing the number from 7,018 schools (on the 18th) to 123 schools. The significant decrease in the number of schools unable to hold in-person classes is due to the resumption of in-person classes at kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in the metropolitan area, which had been conducting full remote classes.
By region, there were 38 schools in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, 59 schools in Boryeong, Chungnam, 1 school in Daejeon, and 3 schools in Gyeonggi.
Between the 18th and 20th, the number of students confirmed with COVID-19 increased by 10, totaling 549. No additional confirmed cases occurred among faculty and staff.
