Korea Customs Service Introduces 'Easy Payment' in Uni-Pass... "Simplifying Customs Duty Payment"

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Customs Service will introduce and apply a 'simple payment' service to the electronic customs clearance system Uni-Pass.

The Korea Customs Service announced on the 21st that it will implement the Uni-Pass simple payment service starting from the 22nd to enhance taxpayers' convenience in tax payment.

The simple payment service can be used through three providers: Naver Pay, Kakao Pay, and Payco.

According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of customs duties paid via credit card has shown an increasing trend: 187.4 billion KRW in 2017, 249.2 billion KRW in 2018, and 289.5 billion KRW in 2019.

The Uni-Pass simple payment service is being implemented reflecting this trend. Considering the rapid spread of customs duty payments into daily life due to the popularization of personal trade, the aim is to promote user convenience by simplifying the tax payment procedures.

With the introduction of the simple payment service, individual taxpayers will be relieved from the hassle of visiting banks or entering credit card numbers and expiration dates, or performing account transfers.

Additionally, the Korea Customs Service explained that if the Customs Act amendment bill (legal basis for mobile notification) submitted to the National Assembly passes by the end of this year, a mobile tax notification service may be additionally introduced.

The Korea Customs Service expects that when the mobile tax notification service and the simple payment service are linked, taxpayers will be able to receive tax notices on their mobile devices and then make payments easily through the simple payment system.

A Korea Customs Service official stated, “We plan to continuously develop and distribute customized services, including expanding the simple payment service, to enhance taxpayers' convenience.”
