DS Automobiles Launches Brand's First Pure Electric Vehicle 'DS 3 Crossback E-Tense'

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] French luxury car brand DS Automobiles (hereinafter DS) officially launched the brand's first pure electric vehicle, the 'DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE,' in the domestic market on the 21st.

The E-TENSE is the brand's first pure electric vehicle and the first premium compact electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Korea. DS plans to set a new standard in the domestic electric vehicle market by launching the electric SUV E-TENSE, which pursues premium design and performance while maintaining price competitiveness.

The premium pure electric SUV DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE features an electrified powertrain infused with the know-how of Formula E champions, interior and exterior designs inspired by French haute couture bespoke tailoring, state-of-the-art safety and convenience features, and a competitive price range.

Song Seung-cheol, CEO of Hanbul Motors, the official importer of DS, said, "The DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE is the first premium compact electric SUV in Korea equipped with technology proven by Formula E champions, advanced functions, and innovative style," adding, "It will lead the premium trend in the domestic compact electric vehicle market and create a new market."

Electrified Powertrain Created by 'Formula E Champions' DS

DS, as the brand leading electrification strategy within the PSA Group, established the motorsports division 'DS Performance' upon its launch in 2015 and has participated in the global electric car racing competition 'ABB FIA Formula E Championship' every season. The DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE is equipped with an electrified powertrain that incorporates DS's expertise, having achieved back-to-back double championships in two consecutive Formula E Championship seasons.

The 100kW electric motor delivers a maximum output of 136 horsepower and a peak torque of 26.51 kg·m, providing strong acceleration performance. The 50kWh battery allows for a driving range of 237 km on a single full charge (320 km based on WLTP). It features a regenerative braking system that can recover up to 20% of the driving range, with a combined energy efficiency of 4.3 km/kWh (urban 4.8 km/kWh / highway 3.9 km/kWh).

Additionally, it is equipped with a high-performance heat pump that provides optimal comfortable temperature inside the cabin without affecting battery temperature control, minimizing unnecessary electricity consumption and enhancing efficiency. The E-TENSE can charge approximately 80% of the battery in 30 minutes using a 100kW fast charger.

Intricate and Delicate Interior and Exterior Design Inspired by Haute Couture

The DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE embodies a sophisticated style inspired by French haute couture bespoke tailoring. Carefully selected premium materials such as Nappa leather and intricate engraving techniques like Clous de Paris guilloch? patterns, used by luxury watchmakers, and pearl stitching showcase the craftsmanship of French artisans throughout the vehicle.

The E-TENSE exclusive Pearl Crystal body color and matte gray grille create a luxurious atmosphere. The three-dimensional design combined with functionality includes the 'DS Matrix LED Vision,' daytime running lights highlighted by pearl stitching, the DS Wings grille and chrome line embodying the brand identity, and a B-pillar styled with a shark fin, all contributing to the E-TENSE's unique and refined impression. It is the only model in the premium compact segment to feature flush-fitting door handles that automatically appear when the key holder approaches.

The interior design reflects expertise in premium materials and delicate details. Half-leather seats combining white Pebble Gray fabric and Nappa leather, a white Nappa leather D-cut steering wheel, and diamond-stitched finishes on the dashboard and door panels express the elegance of Paris's Rue de Rivoli, home to luxury brand shops and the Louvre Palace.

Furthermore, it provides a quiet driving environment typically experienced in higher segments. High-density foam seats, thick doors, and soundproof glass filter out noise and vibrations.

Advanced Safety and Convenience Features Beyond the Segment

The DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE applies advanced safety and convenience features that transcend its segment, offering a safe and comfortable driving experience even during dynamic movements.

It is equipped with DS Matrix LED Vision headlamps that adjust brightness and angle according to driving conditions and road situations, Drive Assist combining adaptive cruise control (ACC) including stop-and-go and lane position assist (LPA), and advanced driving assistance systems such as Active Safety Brake that warns of collision risks and autonomously brakes to prevent or minimize accidents.

All trims feature a 7-inch full digital instrument cluster and display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and a driver's seat massage function as standard. The Grand Chic trim adds a head-up display (HUD) and 18-inch wheels.

The DS 3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE is available in two trims: 'So Chic' and 'Grand Chic.' The selling prices are ▲So Chic 48.5 million KRW ▲Grand Chic 52.5 million KRW. With a government subsidy of 6.28 million KRW and additional local government subsidies depending on the vehicle registration area, it can be purchased starting from the 30 million KRW range. For example, purchasing the So Chic trim in Seoul costs 37.72 million KRW.
