After the original plan was approved by the Urban Planning Committee last June, the fruit of efforts since last year... One step closer to a city park for citizens alongside Gyeongchun Line Station

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Lee Eun-joo, vice-chair of the Transportation Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, Nowon 2), expressed her welcome for the passage of the 7th Urban Park Committee held on the 17th regarding Hwarangdae Railroad Park located on the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail in Nowon-gu.

Hwarangdae Railroad Park is a cultural park of about 40,000㎡, part of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail. In June, through the Urban Planning Committee, the area around the former Hwarangdae Station in Gongneung-dong, Nowon-gu, was designated as an urban planning facility (green space, plaza, park) with a change decision.

The Urban Park Committee is an organization established and operated based on the Act on Urban Parks and Green Spaces and the Seoul Metropolitan Urban Park Ordinance. It deliberates on the establishment and changes of park creation plans proposed by the mayor or district heads.

Assemblywoman Lee Eun-joo stated, “With the passage of this Urban Park Committee review, the already secured budget of 2.7 billion KRW for Hwarangdae Railroad Park, the supplementary park facility budget of 1.98 billion KRW allocated as special grants, and 1.6 billion KRW for the construction of the artificial turf field at the nearby Korea Military Academy will be smoothly executed. This will allow the former Hwarangdae Station, which has high historical and cultural preservation value, and the newly improved park facilities to harmonize and transform into a more perfect railroad cultural park.”

She also said, “In the future, a diorama exhibition hall featuring miniatures of major cities and train villages around the world is planned to be built near the former Hwarangdae Station, making Hwarangdae Railroad Park a railroad cultural park that shares the history of the former Hwarangdae Station and the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail.”

Assemblywoman Lee added, “Since the opening of the Light Garden around Hwarangdae Station last year, the number of visitors to the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail has increased, and I have strongly expressed the opinion that an urban park capable of satisfying the cultural expectations of Nowon-gu residents and Seoul citizens was absolutely necessary. Going forward, I will do my best and continue to work as a Seoul Metropolitan Council member and a resident of Nowon-gu to improve the surrounding traffic environment, such as improving the geometric structure of intersections around the park and installing CCTVs, so that Hwarangdae Railroad Park can establish itself as a more convenient urban resting place.”
